Hostel
and Nursing Care, Hornsby NSW
This
project, developed within the grounds of Hornsby Hospital,
comprised 59 x Hostel Units
and 60 x
Nursing Care beds with associated facilities. Peter Aynsley
undertook all construction documentation, tendering and

project management, tendering and contract administration for
subsequent construction of the Nursing Home.
The
Hostel tower was a multi-story load-bearing brickwork structure
founded on sandstone, with concrete floors formed on Bondek.
Costain Australia carried out the construction, sequencing each
main level by half-floors and achieving a weekly cycle per
half-floor, Engineer John Delprado undertook the load-bearing
brickwork design, there being few load-bearing brick structures of
this height in Australia. Compressive strength required for bricks
at the basement level was 6,250 psi (43,000 kPa).
